Sometimes the changes don’t have to be big, but simple things that will make your employees and you to work in a more comfortable setting. Therefore, here are some suggestions on how to create an optimal work environment at your company and enjoy the benefits it brings.


Arrange the lights

Lighting is important since it will determine the mood in the office, as well as help your employees work better. Natural light is always better, but it can also be a hindrance especially if it goes directly into your employees’ eyes. Shades and curtains can prevent that while still allowing light to enter the room and brighten up the place.


Artificial lights, on the other hand, can be a bit trickier since there are many combinations you can use. If you want to increase productivity, use cooler lights which are actually similar to sunny day. However, in the break room, you should install warmer lights that will allow your employees to relax and clear their heads.


Designate a break room

Your employees will be happy to have a place where they can drink their coffee, go on a break or exchange a word or two with their colleagues. Pay attention to the type of job your employees do and try to create a break room that will be a relaxing getaway from that. For example, create a Zen garden or decorate with peaceful elements like wall waterfalls, statues or paintings.  


Communicate with your employees

It’s easy to create effective means of communication in the office nowadays with all the chat apps and methods. The first thing is to be open with your employees and tell them about the goals of the company. Also, make sure that you praise a work well done and acknowledge their contribution since that will serve as a motivator to others. 


You can create an online form where your employees would send their suggestions and ideas on new ventures. Also, talking personally to your employees may take a lot of your time, but you can designate one day in a month to listen to presentations. Sometimes the best ideas come from within the company and people who know it best.


Take care of your AC system

The quality of air is very important not only for health reasons but it will also create pleasant conditions for work. If you live in the area with high temperatures, then your air conditioner unit must be working all the time in order to keep the offices cool. This means that you have to perform regular maintenance depending on the use of your AC system.


For example, London and Sydney air conditioning maintenance shouldn’t be the same, because the two cities have different weather conditions. Since Sydney has more sunny days and is warmer, it is wise to perform AC servicing at least twice a year. This means that you should buy the best ones your budget allows so your employees wouldn’t develop back problems and ruin their posture. Make sure that your employees sit properly and that their monitors are at the appropriate distance as well.


When it comes to employees who operate machinery, make sure that equipment is operational and that they have functional protective gear. Sometimes employees can get carried away with work, so it would be nice to remind them to take a break. For example, you can hire a corporate yoga instructor to come and practice stretching exercise with them or masseur to help those who spend too much time in one position.


When you run a company, you also need to pay attention to your employees and their wellbeing. It all comes down to revenue in the end, and the company can’t make a profit if its employees are unsatisfied or ill-treated.
